Xiaomi launches a smart scale in China

Xiaomi Smart Scale

After that super-affordable fitness band and wireless blood pressure monitor, Xiaomi is out with another mHealth product – a smart scale, which at least initially, will be available exclusively in China.

Not much is known about the scale except that it can connect to Xiaomi handsets and tablets, and perhaps some other Android-powered mobile devices. The idea is to provide users with an easy way to “quantify themselves” by combining information from a blood pressure monitor, an activity tracker and now a smart scale in a single dashboard, accessible both on the phone and eventually from the web. This, the saying goes, will help users take better care of their health.

The scale itself comes in white and runs on 4AA batteries. No other details were provided, and we’ll have to wait for another few days or weeks to learn about the price. Chance are the smart scale is a product of Xiaomi’s investment in iHealth, which already offers a similar device.

Beyond these “regular devices,” Xiaomi may also be working on sensor-laden running shoes.

Xiaomi’s competitor Meizu unveiled a similar device made in partnership with Haier.

UPDATE: The Xiaomi Smart Scale will sell in China for an equivalent of $15!
