Fitbit Charge HR, Fitbit Surge get automatic exercise tracking to

Fitbit Charge HR and Fitbit Surge

Fitbit updated its offering with SmartTrack automatic exercise recognition and enhancements to PurePulse heart rate tracking to Fitbit Charge HR and Fitbit Surge. As a result, the two wearable devices can now automatically detect common exercises like biking, hiking, running, as well as sports like basketball, soccer and tennis. The companion Fitbit app on its end will pick up the information and present users with an exercise summary — including duration, calories burned and heart rate stats — after the activity.

The company has also launched Exercise Goals, available within the Fitbit app, to help users find the routine that is right for them, and serve as a daily motivation to hit their personalized goals. These goals are tracked on a daily basis with a weekly goal set for the number of days they plan to exercise. They are designed to encourage people to embrace a more consistent workout routine in order to achieve their fitness goals. The feature is available to all users of the free Fitbit app for iOS and Windows, with Android app getting the same capability in the near future.

The new Exercise Goals help users find the routine that is right for them, and serve as a daily motivation to hit their personalized goals.“Our users find exercise in all parts of their day, including activities like short walks with the dog or a bike commute to work,” said Tim Roberts, VP of Interactive at Fitbit. “These new features allow them to focus on their exercise, giving them credit for their most active moments and letting the technology do the work to automatically track progress toward their fitness goals.”

Finally, Fitbit announced new color options for its activity trackers – Fitbit Charge HR is now available in blue, tangerine and teal, while the Fitbit Surge can be bought in blue and tangerine colors.
