Medtronic’s app-based remote monitoring system for pacemakers comes to Canada

MyCareLink Smart Monitor

Medtronic got the regulatory approval to start offering the MyCareLink Smart Monitor in Canada, the company has announced. The app-based remote monitoring system for patients with implantable pacemakers can securely data from a pacemaker to the clinic, which can then react to make treatment decisions.

The MyCareLink Smart Monitor is comprised of a handheld portable device reader, prescribed by a physician, and the MyCareLink Smart mobile app, that works on iOS and Android devices. Said app sends all the data gathered to the Medtronic CareLink Network, which is currently used by more than 1 million patients worldwide.

A connected pacemaker, Medtronic claims, allows physicians to more easily detect a problem based on the transmitted data, and can potentially increase patient survival rates. It also reduces time spent in the hospital if the physician quickly detects and treats a medical problem.

“As a leader in remote cardiac monitoring, Medtronic is committed to providing cardiac patients with the latest technology to improve their health and make their lives easier, while helping to reduce the costs of healthcare,” Neil Fraser, President of Medtronic Canada, said in a statement. “The MyCareLink Smart Monitor is just the first of many innovative solutions we are developing that leverage smart technology to increase patient engagement.”
