Israel-based Sweetch Health gets $3.5M for its diabetes prevention solution

Jerusalem, Israel-based Sweetch Health has raised $3.5 million in a Series A round led by equity crowdfunding platform OurCrowd and Philips, the website called NoCamels is reporting. The company targets people who are at risk for developing it or may not be aware they already have a chronic condition like diabetes. Its solution offers clinically validated diet and exercise regimen designed to help participants make lifestyle changes to improve their health.

The funds will be used to enter the U.S. market where Sweetch hopes to get doctors to prescribe its digital intervention to their patients. The idea is, obviously, inspired by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid’s decision to provide reimbursement for Diabetes Prevention Program participants.

The company’s solution uses algorithms that guide users to the key objectives of the Diabetes Prevention Program. Those algorithms are set to be tested in a pilot study at Johns Hopkins Medicine, according to a statement on OurCrowd’s website.

Sweetch Health was founded in 2013 and is run by CEO Dana Chanan, who has an extensive experience in leading product divisions with focus on consumer behavior, user experience and engagement through gamification. Previously, she was an executive team member at Playtech, 888 and Snaptu.
