Amazon Web Services and Merck have launched a developer competition to harness artificial intelligence for diabetics.
Powered by Luminary Labs, the Alexa Diabetes Challenge is inviting companies and individual developers to create apps that use Amazon's Alexa voice-enabled technology and Amazon Web Services cloud infrastructure to help patients recently diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.
The contest will select five entrants in the first round, each of which will be awarded with $25,000 and 100,000 AWS credits. From there, the selected companies will be moved into the Virtual Accelerator to access mentors and transform the initial concepts into real solutions.
The finalists will be presenting their apps to judges in a pop-up AWS loft in New York City, after which the winner will be awarded $125,000.
Submissions are now open at AlexaDiabetesChallenge.com and close on May 22, 2017.
