Samsung announces Gear Sport, Gear Fit2 Pro, and Gear IconX (2018)

The new products could help the Korean company capture a portion of the premium wearables market.

Samsung announces Gear Sport, Gear Fit2 Pro, and Gear IconX (2018)

We have already talked about the Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro; now we have it right from the horse's mouth in the form of the official announcement that also talks about two other products – Gear Sport and Gear IconX.

Let's briefly look at all three devices, shall we?

Samsung Gear Sport

This is a unisex smartwatch — comes in just one size of 42mm and one size band at 20mm width — designed exclusively for sport, swimming included.

Specs include:

  • 1.2-inch Super AMOLED 360p screen
  • Gorilla Glass 3 screen, stainless steel case
  • 1GHz dual-core processor
  • 768MB of RAM
  • 4GB of internal storage
  • Built-in GPS
  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity
  • Heart-rate sensor
  • Tizen OS
  • 300 mAh battery with wireless charging support
  • 50 grams weight (without a strap)
  • Waterproof design with 5ATM resistance (50m depth of pressure); also resistant to sand and dust with MIL-STD-810G rating.

We have already talked about this product, but let's repeat the key specs:

  • 1.5" curved Super AMOLED of 216 x 432 px
  • Gorilla Glass 3 screen
  • 1GHz dual-core processor
  • 512MB of RAM
  • 4GB of internal storage
  • Built-in GPS
  • Bluetooth connectivity
  • Heart-rate sensor
  • Tizen OS
  • Available in Small and Large sizes
  • 200 mAh battery
  • 34 grams weight
  • Waterproof design with 5ATM resistance (50m depth of pressure); also resistant to sand and dust with MIL-STD-810G rating.

In order to make the device appealing to the wider audience, Samsung has partnered with a few companies for enhanced user experience. For instance, Spotify allows users to save up to 500 songs for offline listening, while Under Armour provides 1-year premium subscription for UA Record for free. Plus for swimming workouts, there's the app from Speedo.

Samsung Gear IconX (2018)

Last, but not the least, is the updated (second) version of the Gear IconX (2018) cord-free earbuds, offering up to 5 hours of Bluetooth streaming music (7 hours when in standalone mode) or 4 hours of talk time.

Rest of the specs include:

  • 4GB of built-in storage
  • 82 mAh battery, charging case – 340 mAh
  • 8 grams weight
  • Capacitive surface with gesture support – single/double/triple tap, single/double tap and hold, and swipe up/down.

The IconX (2018) also supports Samsung's mobile assistant, Bixby. In addition, the Korean giant touts fast charging capabilities of the IconX, with just 10 minutes of charging providing enough juice for the earbuds to last for 1 hour of exercises.

All three products will be available this fall, with Gear Fit 2 Pro selling for $199. Prices of two other devices have not been announced.
