Roche acquires Bina Technologies

Bina Technologies

Roche has acquired Redwood City, California-based Bina Technologies, the privately held company that provides a big data platform for centralized management and processing of next generation sequencing (NGS) data for the academic and translational research markets. Financial details of the transactions have not been revealed, but we do know that Bina will be integrated into the Roche Sequencing Unit, and will continue to focus on development of their genomic analysis solution.

“We found great alignment between our company’s vision and values, and we are very excited about the possibilities of working with Roche’s global team and serving the academic and translational and clinical research markets together in the future,” said Narges Bani Asadi, Founder and CEO of Bina.

Bina’s proprietary Genomic Management Solution, the Bina-GMS, is expected to dramatically improve the speed and cost of genomic analyses. The platform has recently been selected by the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to provide whole genome, whole exome, and SNP Chip DNA data analysis as part of the VA’s Million Veteran Program (MVP), which aims to enroll 1 million veterans.

Bina’s proprietary Genomic Management Solution, the Bina-GMS, is expected to dramatically improve the speed and cost of genomic analyses. The acquisition by Roche will enable Bina to further expand support to similar big-data population studies, as well as grow their offering for global enterprise and clinical research customers. With the new resources, Bina will also be able to accelerate product development by expanding its interdisciplinary team of bioinformatics scientists, computer scientists and software engineers.

Bina is/was backed by Sierra Ventures, Signatures Capital, Columbus Nova Technology Partners, and AME Cloud Ventures.
