France’s Doctolib raises $20.5M for its doctor-booking service

Doctolib

Paris-based Doctolib has raised $20.5 million for its service that helps patients find doctors and schedule appointments. The company will use the funds — provided by Otium Capital; Bertrand Jelensperger, cofounder and CEO of La Forchette; and Nicolas Brusson, a cofounder of France’s BlaBlaCar — to expand into six new European countries.

Doctolib has around 5,000 doctors and 100 clinics on its platform, and is currently being used by 2 million patients per month. According to Stanislas Niox-Chateau, the company’s cofounder and current chief executive, Doctolib wants to consolidate its leadership in France, as well as launch in other markets, including Germany, Spain and Italy.

Doctolib is by no means the only company offering doctor booking services in Europe. Its biggest rival is probably DocPlanner, which has been expanding throughout the continent with a series of acquisitions.

There’s also the US-based ZocDoc that also has operations in India and will likely be entering European market at some point in the (near) future.

Niox-Chateau said Doctolib provides a stronger set of features than ZocDoc, but as we know it – the feature set is seldom the only thing that pushes users towards one way (or the other).
