Chiron Health raises $2.3M seed round, launches an iPhone and iPad app

Chiron Health, which provides HIPAA-compliant video visit telemedicine software and reimbursement services, has raised a $2.3 million seed round and has released an iPhone and iPad app for patients.

The company says it has taken a fundamentally different approach to telemedicine than many of the well-known players in the space. It is focused on the technology needs of physician practices to enable telemedicine encounters with their existing patient base. In comparison, in the common model of on-demand telemedicine patients must see healthcare providers with no prior relationship.

“We believe that telemedicine should be used as a tool to strengthen the physician-patient relationship,” said Andrew O’Hara, Chiron Health’s Founder & CEO. “While on-demand telemedicine is good for keeping patients out of the emergency department, the real promise of telemedicine will be realized when patients have easy access to their own healthcare providers.”

Additionally, Chiron Health is also integrating its telemedicine tools with an increasing number of electronic health record systems, including athenahealth, enabling physician practices to schedule and document video visits with no staff behavior change.
