Miniaturization of electronics is a constant. Pretty much every year, if not more often, we see a product that used to require a case to be carried around suddenly fitting in a pocket.

That’s the case with this petite ECG system. Unlike competing devices — like the one made by AliveCor — this ECG is no bigger than a standard business card, yet it can capture one lead ECG with room left to accommodate a digital display and battery.

The underlying electronics is apparently good enough to read the P, Q, R, S and T waves of the ECG signal. However, in order to get any clinical use, regulatory approval will be needed and those things can take both time and money.

In the meantime, the company behind this business card-sized product, mobilECG, is inviting everyone to experiment with its baby, and has even provided open source software along with schematics to make this small ECG. Check out how it works from a video below.
