French book publisher acquires the company behind the brain training app Peak

Peak app

Vanves, France-based Hachette Livre, a subsidiary of book publisher Lagardére SCA, has acquired London-based brain training app maker Brainbow — known for its Peak app — MobiHealthNews is reporting. As of today, no numbers have been shared.

According to the Brainbow/Peak blog post, the acquisition won’t change much at the company and it will continue to “challenge and motivate its users.” Also, it will be run by the original team of founders, and continue to work out of London.

Brainbow launched Peak in 2014 with the goal of helping users improve their memory, focus, problem solving, mental agility, and language skills. There are 24 games available on the app which range in difficulty level. While Peak is free to download, the guided program costs $4.99 for one month or $34.99 per year.

Going forward, the company plans to launch even more games and modules to go beyond challenging your cognitive skills, and include tools that will help users get enough sleep, eat right, socialize, manage stress and maintain a clear mind.

Brainbow raised a total of $10.5 million, including the $7 million round last April from Creandum, DN Capital, London Venture Partners, and Qualcomm Ventures. Also last year, the company worked with Cambridge University to produce a small, peer-reviewed study of its apps.

Earlier in 2016, Hachette UK acquired another app maker – Neon Play, and this latest acquisition is part of Hachette Livre’s mobile strategy.
