Independa has managed to raise some $2.8 million in its second round of funding, according to MobiHealthNews.
The San Diego-based company makes Angela, which is a tablet-based app/service that helps the elderly patients who choose to stay in their homes rather than move to assisted living or nursing homes. A similar service is also available on select LG TVs, featuring video chat, email, Internet, Facebook, games, puzzles, and other interactive content. The interface offers large screen fonts, higher contrast and bright colors for those with poor eyesight. Additionally, Angela also comes with a built-in medications reminder, and specially designed calendar for medical and personal appointments, birthdays and anniversaries.
In its first round last year, Independa raised about $5 million from LG Electronics USA and City Hill Ventures.
