Xiaomi is working on smart shoes, TechInAsia is reporting. The company that is known as “Apple of China” already offers an affordable fitness tracker called Mi Band, and with a smart shoe, they would be able to attract even wider audience to their ecosystem.
To make this happen, Xiaomi is apparently working with Chinese fitness apparel giant Li Ning as well as Huami, which actually makes the Mi fitness band.
Li Ning is already collecting data on runners from its laboratory, while Huami is focused on creating the smart chip that would be inserted into the heels of the smart shoes. Said chip will be able to collect all kinds of information about users, including things like distance, pace, and the runner’s gait, and then pass that data on to Xiaomi’s fitness app. The application will take it from there, analyzing the performance and presenting the information collected in an easy to grasp manner.
It is said that Li Ning will start with two pairs of smart shoes, one of which will be a smart version of an existing high-end running shoe model; the other model will be brand new and will “create a new low price for smart shoes.” Unfortunately though, we are left wondering about the price and release dates…
