Alibaba is going for the digital health market of China through its cloud computing subsidiary Aliyun. That part of the e-commerce giant has partnered with Xi’an International Medical Investment and DHC Software to create what it says is the first “cloud hospital” in China.
The companies will develop a hospital administration platform that promises to improve the quality of medical care by making it easier for organizations to manage individual patient cases and analyze aggregated health data.
Xi’an International Medical Investment, which manages department stores and real estate as well as medical facilities, will be in charge of bringing the platform to market, while DHC Software will focus on its development. Aliyun on its end will contribute data analysis, cloud computing services, online-to-offline healthcare, and online payment support.
The “cloud hospital” will allow hospitals to share information more quickly and reduce the amount of time patients spend in waiting rooms.According to the Xi’an International Medical Investment’s chairman Jin Shi, the “cloud hospital” will allow hospitals to share information more quickly and reduce the amount of time patients spend in waiting rooms. Patients will be able to register for appointments and make online payments, while the software’s analytic tools will be helping doctors make more accurate diagnoses.
Alibaba has previously announced plans to use its technology to help remake China’s health system. Part of that plan was to transfer its online pharmacy business to Alibaba Health Information Technology, to “enable Alibaba Group to build a healthcare ecosystem that can utilize e-commerce, big data, and other technologies to improve the healthcare supply chain and ultimately provide users with a better healthcare experience.”
