As part of their MobileFrst partnership, Apple and IBM have unveiled new iPhone apps, three of which are made to help nurses with administrative work, and one for at-home caregivers.
- Hospital RN aims to replace the pager, giving nurses access to patient records, and the ability to locate patients through iBeacon technology. Additionally, the application relies on push notifications to access patient requests, lab status and safety alerts.
- Hospital Lead for iPad enables hospital administrators to manage floor nurses and staff through a centralized portal, offering a single, unified view of multiple internal database.
- Hospital Tech, which tunes into a hospital’s record system to give nurses real-time access to patient requests, safety alerts and lab status.
- Home RN that enables home-based caregivers to manage patient records and share information among care team members. Furthermore, it features location-based technology so that caregivers can locate patient homes and nearby sites, such as a pharmacy or urgent care center.
And this is just a tip of the iceberg with Apple and IBM hoping to produce more than 100 apps built on the Apple iOS platform, with IBM handling sales and administration, including hardware leasing, device management, security analytics, mobile integration and on-site repairs.
