Pharmacy coordination platform ZappRx has raised $5.6 million in Series A funding to further build upon its prescription data automation technology and scale operations.
The startup is looking to automate transfer of medical prescription information from the doctor to the pharmacist. Right now, most of the prescription paperwork comes through fax machines; it could be lost and is frequently not archived properly. ZappRx sends this information over an app in real-time to ensure patients get the medications they need.
The startup is focused on specialty pharmacies that provide care to patients with acute or chronic conditions. According to ZappRx, these patients frequent the pharmacy the most to pick up various medications or must specialty order them.
With the help of new funds, ZappRx will be able to hire more people to help execute on more deals with large pharmaceutical companies.
The round was led by GlaxoSmithKline’s funding arm SR One, with participation from early stage life sciences venture firm Atlas Ventures. The company has raised a total of $8.8 million to date.
