Sony is working on a successor to its SmartBand wearable, with the SmartBand 2 app hitting the Google Play Store.
As spotted by XperiaBlog, the pictures in the app listing show the still unannounced device which will have a heart rate sensor on the underside of the SmartBand module. This capability [integrated heart rate sensor] is also confirmed on one of the app screenshots that says: “SmartBand measures your pulse at an even rate throughout the day,” whilst giving an indication of your BPM (beats per minute) ‘right now’.
The SmartBand 2 is described as an “innovative life logging wrist band that tracks your body effort through pulse and HRV (heart rate variability), keeps track of your movements and your sleep.” And beyond fitness tracking, it supports the smart alarm feature that smoothly wakes up users in the morning. Moreover, it delivers notifications to the wearer’s wrist.
Finally, Sony adds that the SmartBand 2 app is optimized for Sony Xperia smartphones and that some of its functions may not work with other smartphones.
