Wearable for posture and movement tracking gets another FDA clearance

ViMove

After securing its first FDA clearance last summer, Australia-based dorsaVi has received another 510(k) clearance to expand the use case for its suite of wearable sensors, called ViMove, which enables tracking of static postures like a natural standing posture and various sitting postures. Additionally, the new clearance also allows providers to track healthy patients and establish a benchmark of normal movements for a given age group. This, the saying goes, would help guide therapy and the development of a rehab program.

Earlier this spring, dorsaVi entered the US market with a workplace safety device called ViSafe. This product was designed to track workers periodically during work tasks, with the software analyzing data about the strain the work is putting on different muscles and joints. The same software is also making recommendations about what sorts of movement the worker should reduce or avoid.

ViMove is still not available in the US, but with this regulatory hurdle out of the way, chances are it will be available across the States in the near future. In the meantime, the company is selling the product in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK.

Beyond healthcare, DorsaVi also has a product made for professional athletes called ViPerform. This solution is already used by sports teams in Australia and various Olympic teams, as well as by NBA, NFL and soccer teams.
