Lockheed Martin has formed a new healthcare technology alliance spanning health IT providers, medical technology companies, and academic institutions. The founding members of the Lockheed Martin Healthcare Technology Alliance include Cisco, Cloudera, Illumina, Intel and Montgomery College.
“Through collaboration between health IT industry and academic partners, this team will develop and refine technologies that will help guide decisions for care, diagnosis and treatment of disease while protecting critical health information,” said Horace Blackman, vice president of Health & Life Sciences at Lockheed Martin.
Lockheed Martin and Illumina are already working together to develop tailored solutions for national-scale genomics programs. The members of the Alliance will collaborate on technology solutions that help improve care in such areas as secure patient medical information, genomic research, and big data solutions to improve public health.

In this collaboration, Lockheed Martin provides systems integration and data analytics experience, while Illumina chips-in with its expertise in genomic sequencing and analysis.
No mobile technology has been mentioned in the press release, but chances are that at least some of the products/services this Alliance produces will have a mobile component. That’s the case with IBM’s Watson Health division, and that will likely be the case with “Lockheed’s Alliance” as well.
