Xiaomi’s upcoming Mi Band 1S will monitor your heart rate

China’s Xiaomi will be launching a successor to its affordable Mi Band wearable in the near future, having already cleared that device with Taiwan’s National Communications Commission, which is the country’s equivalent of the FCC.

What makes the upcoming Mi Band 1S better than its predecessor, the current Mi Band, is the fact that it will boast a heart rate monitor. Otherwise, it will look pretty similar to the existing device, sporting the same aluminum cap on top.

Xiaomi’s decision to aggressively price the Mi Band has brought it a number of users in a short period of time. The company — which is often referred to as “Apple of China” — has managed to capture a quarter of the wearables market in the first quarter of the year despite the fact that the Mi Band is still not available in many countries around the world, United States being one of them. It’s unclear whether the updated model will be sold in the Western hemisphere, though.

In the smartphone department, Xiaomi has moved 34.7 million devices in the first half of 2015, beating its previous records along the way.
