London-based Hinge Health has came up with a solution that aims to deliver care for musculoskeletal disorders, which the company says, affect half of employees, costing employers around $10,000 per employee per year.

To tackle this problem, Hinge developed a 16-week digital health program that aims to help employees recuperate from musculoskeletal problems such as lower back, knee, shoulder and neck pain. It has also gathered a team of researchers from Oxford, Cambridge and London with backgrounds in medicine, behavioral health, bioengineering, design, and software.

Hinge Health has gathered a team of researchers from Oxford, Cambridge and London with backgrounds in medicine, behavioral health, bioengineering, design, and software.“We developed two wearable bands with motion sensors that guide participants through clinically validated stretching and strengthening regimes,” said Hinge Health co-founder Daniel Perez to MedCity News. “Reps are automatically tracked, angles recorded, and participants can see their joint moving live on screen.”

Another factor in the program is weight management, which helps participants cut their weight from 5 to 10 percent. Peer support comes included and each participant has a health coach assigned to them who helps set goals and monitor progress. They [participants] can also form groups of 12-18 people where they have collective team goals for activity and weight loss, can support each other, and stay accountable.

Hinge has already done a pilot of the program in Oxford and London. The company has secured seed funding with plans to raise a Series A in the near future.
