Samsung has officially announced the Gear S2 smart watch, powered by its own Tizen platform (as opposed to Google’s Android Wear). The device looks more like a regular watch than gadget only geeks would wear, despite packing a number of sensors inside, including an accelerometer, gyroscope, heart rate, ambient light and barometer.
Samsung preloaded S Health and Nike+ Running apps on the watch to allow users to easily track their health activities (or their lack off). There are other apps as well such as those for weather, music playback, photos, maps (navigation), weather, messaging, and more.

Samsung promises 2-3 days of battery life and support for contactless payments thanks to the built-in NFC chip. Said capability promises to expand the utility of the watch in new ways, including “smart car keys, residential room keys, and remote controls to manage a connected home.”
Release date and pricing information are still not released; we do know that the regular version of the Gear S2 will be available in either a dark gray case with dark gray band, or a silver case with a white band. The Gear S2 Classic, on the other hand, will boast a black case and matching black leather band. All models will be on display at the upcoming IFA conference in Berlin, Germany.
