Teva Pharmaceutical acquires Gecko Health Innovations

Teva Pharmaceutical has acquired Gecko Health Innovations, which has developed a mobile-connected solution to aid in compliance and adherence improvement in the management of respiratory diseases.

“The acquisition of Gecko Health Innovations further enhances Teva’s ability to develop and deliver truly patient-centered solutions by utilizing eConnected, data-driven technology to improve the management of respiratory diseases,” said Rob Koremans, M.D., President and CEO of Teva Global Specialty Medicines.

CareTRx comprises of a hardware device which attaches to most metered-dose inhalers (MDIs), companion app and a web-based online platform.Through the agreement, Teva will acquire CareTRx, Gecko’s cloud-based solution designed to simplify chronic respiratory disease management, connecting patients and caregivers with remote monitoring and real-time adherence tools.

Teva will explore new ways to apply this technology to its robust pipeline and portfolio of respiratory products with the goal of enhancing clinical outcomes for patients. CareTRx is a solution comprised of a hardware device which attaches to most metered-dose inhalers (MDIs) as well as a software that synchronizes and stores data through an app-based user interface.

This is by no means Tera’s first move in the digital health space; previously, we’ve seen the pharmaceutical company investing “tens of millions” in telehealth service provider American Well.
