NantHealth, the informatics and analytics subsidiary of Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong’s NantWorks empire, is acquiring genomic medicine startup Health Heritage from Chicago area-based NorthShore University HealthSystem.
The deal, according to MedCityNews, was signed about a month ago, with LinkedIn profiles of key people from Health Heritage pointing to NantHealth as their employer. These would include Dr. William Knaus, who created Health Heritage; Leigh Baumgart, a former research scientist in NorthShore’s Center for Biomedical Research Informatics; and Jack Leitch, who used to work as a software architect at Health Heritage.
Health Heritage’s initial app, launched in May 2014, was focused on early detection of cancer.Health Heritage is an online genomic medicine decision support application that aggregates and analyzes all kinds of data — including medical records, genetic tests and family history — to assess disease risk. It helps healthcare providers decide on the most appropriate testing and therapy for high-risk patients, avoid unnecessary testing for those without much risk and produces the medical justification insurers seek before paying for genetic screening.
The company’s initial app, launched in May 2014, was focused on early detection of cancer, and in that sense it meshes well with Soon-Shiong’s quest to cure the disease.
