Tracking one’s sleep is quickly turning into a billion dollar business. Thus far Sleep Number wasn’t looking at consumers for growth but that changed at CES.
The company’s newly announced smart bed, called “It,” quantifies your sleep, connects to other health and fitness apps, and offers suggestions on how to have a better night’s sleep. Plus, rather than just provide the data, the It can actually do something about your sleep by adjusting its firmness level for your comfort.
The smart “It” bed will be available later this year in six different sized for around $1,000.Like the other Sleep Number beds, the “It” will come equipped with Sleep IQ biometric sensors that measure things like heart rate, breathing and movement to come up with actionable data and suggestions. Moreover, thanks to the “ActiveComfort” technology, the foam-filled chambers inside the bed can adjust to your ideal setting, as determined by the underlying sensors.
Like that’s not enough, Sleep Number is also announced the Sleep IQ API so that third-party developers can get your sleep data to help you get a better picture of your well-being, and integrate sleep-related advice into other apps. So for instance, an app could notify you it’s time to go to bed to get some rest. Support for the enhanced Sleep IQ API will be released as an update to all SleepIQ beds by the end of 2016.
Meanwhile, the new It bed will be available later this year in six different sized for around $1,000.
