The former CEO of Twitter, Dick Costolo, is starting a new software company with Fitify CEO Bryan Oki to build a “platform that reimagines the path to personal fitness.” In a tweet, Costolo said that this platform will go beyond standard health measurements, to help motivate users while working in concert with their existing fitness professionals.
“This platform will go beyond measurement to motivate and drive improvement and make the road to personal transformation fun and social,” he wrote. “For wellness professionals, from fitness coaches to physical therapists and nutritionists and more, our platform will be the easiest and most flexible way to extend expertise and guidance by orders of magnitude.”
No other details have been provided, like who will finance this venture. Costolo has a pile of cash of his own, so the company may bootstrap at the start and raise funds at a later point.
Meanwhile, he also joined Index Ventures as a partner, so we may easily see Index being one of investors of the new venture.
The fitness service market is quickly becoming a crowded space with new players frequently joining the party. With his background and extensive rolodex, Costolo seems to have what it takes to thrive in this market. We’ll see how that goes…
