Healthcare communications services company ghg greyhealth group is “going mobile” with acquisition of The Lathe, a New York-based digital design and development company that helps healthcare organizations connect to patients, caregivers, and professionals using mobile technology.
“At ghg, we are focused on mobile health and believe technology and effective communication will significantly improve the lives of healthcare consumers and their providers,” Lynn O’Connor Vos, CEO of ghg, said in a statement. “The Lathe has pioneered innovative mobile solutions in chronic and rare disease for many major pharmaceutical companies. Together, we will create novel solutions for key health stakeholders.”
The Lathe will operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of ghg and maintain its current office in New York.Founded in 2003, The Lathe prides itself to be a “mobile-first” company, the fact that helped it score some of the biggest clients from the pharmaceutical and medical device industries.
An example quoted in the press release describes how The Lathe managed to expand a simple adherence app for a multiple sclerosis therapy into a digital ecosystem that combines data from a patient’s injection device with a cloud-based dashboard. The end result was a useful tool that allows healthcare providers to recognize adherence issues and intervene when appropriate.
ghg on its end was a founding partner of Text4Baby, the free health text messaging service for pregnant women and new mothers. It was also the first digital health agency to partner with IBM Watson and now is on the Watson design team.
Under the deal, The Lathe will operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of ghg and maintain its current office in New York. It will continue to work independently with its clients and also begin to work in conjunction with ghg’s app development team to jointly build solutions for select ghg clients.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
