Mio unveils new activity tracker, health algorithm

Mio SLICE

Mio Global, which makes heart rate monitoring technology used in many of today’s wearable devices, unveiled a new Mio SLICE activity tracker along with its very own Personal Activity Intelligence (PAI) index. Said index is based on comprehensive scientific research, and is a personalized reflection of each user’s body response to physical activity based on heart rate.

Mio’s patent-pending PAI algorithm relies on the HUNT Study, one of the largest health studies ever conducted in history, in which more than 60,000 individuals were closely monitored over 20 years. The results suggested that keeping PAI score above 100 will increase user’s lifespan by up to 10 years and provide maximum protection from lifestyle diseases.

“PAI is the most relevant index for measuring whether your activity level is sufficient to achieve maximum health benefits,” Ulrik Wisløff, Professor at Faculty of Medicine, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, said in a statement. “Managing your PAI score helps you to reduce your risk of lifestyle-related diseases. Put simply, it helps you live healthier for longer.”

The new SLICE activity tracker wristband displays a user’s PAI score based on all-day heart rate monitoring. It will be available later this year, while its companion app, Mio PAI, is already up for download in Apple’s App Store and Google’s Play Store. Mio’s current line of wearables will be updated with support for the PAI score.
