Dreamit unveils its Spring 2016 cohort of startups

Dreamit

Dreamit announced its Spring cohort of startups, split between ed tech and digital health companies. We, of course, care for the latter group, which will take part in a four-month-long program designed to prepare them for success.

Last year, the accelerator slightly changed its model with the introduction of the no-equity option. Also, it no longer requires relocation, and has added more customer touch points to allow startups to receive commercial validation. Furthermore, instead of a traditional Demo Day, Dreamit will now curate targeted investor meetings for companies during a two week bi-coastal investor roadshow at the conclusion of the 16 weeks.

The Dreamit Health  Spring 2016 cohort includes:

Addicaid builds tools to prevent and treat substance abuse and addiction. Described as a kind of “Fitbit-meets-Facebook” by Fortune Magazine, the tool can be used by about 20 different kinds of addicts including alcoholics, gamblers, overeaters, codependents, and sex addicts.

Admetsys has developed the world’s first artificial pancreas system for use in hospital and surgical care. The company’s treatment technology advances the standard of diabetic control, while offering the precision and repeatability required by hospitals.

Cellepathy leverages artificial intelligence and mobile sensor data to solve connected-car problems. Its first solution is a distracted driving risk management platform that lets employers define the way their employees can use smartphones behind the wheel.

CircleLink Health helps people with chronic conditions stay healthy by engaging them through a clinical call center and/or mobile app. The company also enables doctors to better coordinate care and earn new, preventative care reimbursements from insurers.

DNAsimple allows donors to contribute to scientific studies and provides genetic researchers with the samples they need, for about half the cost of creating and managing an in-house genomic sample bank.

Inquisithealth utilizes the power of peer-to-peer mentoring to improve health outcomes. Peer mentors are patients who manage their own chronic disease well, and behind every mentor-mentee interaction is a robust technology platform that is the key to efficacy, lower cost, HIPAA-compliance, and scale.

Kermit is an analytics platform that delivers insight to the fragmented spend category of physician preference items. The company equips supply chain managers, surgeons and executives with real-time data on implantable medical device transactions, while saving hospitals millions of dollars.

Keriton is a design-first, early-stage healthcare startup that aims to automate pumped breast milk management systems at Neo-natal ICUs (NICU) to reduce turn-around time and improve employee efficiency.

MedAware utilizes big data analytics and advanced machine learning to transform large-scale medical data into actionable clinical knowledge. Its flagship product identifies prescription errors in real time, dramatically reducing healthcare costs while improving patient safety, outcomes, and experience. Also, the company offers a suite of patient-centered population health management solutions capable of providing outcome assessment, clinical insight, and personalized treatment.

MedStack is an end-to-end developer platform for the creation of integrated healthcare apps. Said platform features secure communications building blocks, a standardized data model and a fully privacy-compliant cloud infrastructure.

Neofluidics offers simplified microfluidic tools for drug discovery and research. Their flagship product, the NeoPlate, converts the well plate into a smart device that automatically controls fluid dispensing, dilutions, and single cell capture, while easily integrating with current liquid handling systems used in the industry.

Prevnos is a biotechnology company operating within the in-vitro diagnostics sector. The company engages within the cancer genetics and cytogenetics space, creating novel fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) assays for clinical and research use.

Somatix is a B2B2C company using big data derived from wearables for the inclusion of preventative behavioral health methods into existing healthcare systems. Its first product, SmokeBeat, works with standard smartwatches to identify when users smoke and take them through an effective smoking cessation process based on behavioral modification psychological methodologies.

Suggestic helps individuals revert type 2 diabetes through epigenetic lifestyle interventions. The company uses machine learning technology to extract and validate the causal patterns between each person’s genes, metabolism, food and activities, in order to continuously calibrate and enhance each and every epigenetic lifestyle interaction. The program is delivered via web, smart phone app, SMS, phone, telehealth and in-person visits.

Wellth helps insurers and risk-bearing healthcare providers better understand their populations, improve customer health and retention, and lower costs, through a mobile first, financial incentive focused platform.

For the first time this year, accepted companies will begin their immersion into startup methodology at Destination Dreamit, a summit bringing together top VCs, Dreamit alumni, and industry thought leaders.
