Roche Diabetes Care has teamed-up with mySugr, a mobile-enabled service that helps people reduce the burden of managing their diabetes. Under the deal, Roche will help mySugr reach more users, with the co-promotion agreement starting in Germany and Austria. The U.S. and other markets are expected to follow afterwards.

Roche will also integrate its Accu-Chek Connect meter with the mySugr app to allow users to automatically upload blood glucose data into the app, which includes gamified elements to make managing diabetes fun.

“This co-operation will bring true innovation to our customers,” Marcel Gmuender, Global Head of Roche Diabetes Care, said in a statement. “Digital diabetes care solutions have proven to help manage diabetes-related data more comprehensively. This makes data more meaningful and can ultimately lead to better therapy outcomes.”

Founded in 2012, mySugr was launched with a tagline “we make diabetes suck less” and the idea to become a loyal companion to diabetics. The company’s best-known app, mySugr Logbook, has more than 600,000 registered users worldwide and focuses on automated tracking through connected devices, insulin dose calculations (approved for use in Europe), estimated HbA1c statistics, and clear reporting for effective therapy management with clinicians. The application is registered as a class 1 device with the FDA and has similar status in Europe.

In March 2015, mySugr raised $4.8 million from Roche Ventures, iSeed Ventures and XLHealth.
