There were 139 deals and the average deal size was over $15 million, exceeding 2014's $14.6 million, though Rock only looks at US deals over $2 million.

The three startups -- including 1DocWay, Arsenal Health and Caeden --join Rock's existing portfolio companies located on the East Coast.

The figure represents nearly the total of all three prior years combined, representing a 125% year-on-year growth in funding compared to 2013.

Bessemer Venture Partners and Kaiser Permanente Ventures led the round, with participation from KPCB, Montreux Equity Partners and Great Oaks Ventures.

The average deal size for the year dropped $2.5M per deal to $13.1M since the midyear mark; however, the average deal remains 31% larger than 2013.
