The earlier leaked Xiaomi Mi Band has been officially announced, alongside the company’s latest flagship smartphone, Mi4.
Similarly to other fitness bands, this one too comes with built-in sensors that will track your fitness activities, as well as sleeping patterns to determine your health and overall well-being. The water-proof band will also be able to unlock compatible Xiaomi smartphones such as the Mi3 and Mi4 without a single touch. Finally, there’s the ability to use the Mi Band as an alarm clock with the wearable using its vibrating motor to wake you up.
An accompanying app will likely be launched though at the moment, we don’t know what it will be all about. Chances are it will work in a similar vein to other fitness tracking apps, allowing users to track their runs, bike rides, walks and so on.
The best part is the price. Xiaomi, which some refer to as “Apple of China,” will offer the Mi Band for an equivalent of $12. That, of course, is the amount Chinese users will pay for it, whereas folks living in other parts of the world will likely have to spend more money, and procure one of these through an importer. The Mi Band will initially go on sale in China during Q3, with few other Asian countries most likely getting it at a later date. The company still doesn’t have a presence in North America and Europe, though.
UPDATE: The Mi Band will go on sale on August 18th.
