Google has launched the Google Fit Developer Challenge to spur developer interest for its activity tracking platform.
The search giant is offering a number of incentives for companies and individuals looking to either make new Google Fit-enabled apps or add Google’s fitness tracking capabilities to existing ones.
Submissions close on February 17, 2015, and the winning apps will be selected and promoted in March 2015.The prizes developers could win include Adidas’ X_CELL and SPEED_CELL, Polar’s Loop activity tracker and H7 heart rate sensor, Withings’ Smart Body Analyzer (smart scale), and an Android Wear smart watch selected by Google, along with marketing push from Google in the form of featured listing on Google Play, and inclusion of the app in related newsletter.
The top 6 new and top 6 updated apps will win all of the prizes mentioned above; the next 50 new and 50 updated apps will win all of the devices, whereas the next 100 new and 100 updated apps will win a Wear smart watch and Adidas sensors.
Judges will make their choice based on several criteria, including real innovation, “fun to use,” longevity, helpfulness and design.
Those interested can already submit their apps for the Challenge. Submissions close on February 17, 2015, and the winning apps will be selected and promoted in March 2015.
Google Fit is an open platform that provides a single set of APIs to store and access data from apps and sensors in Android devices and other places, like wearables.
