Cincinnati-based tech startup Strap has secured $1.25 million in seed round of funding to develop its software for wearable technology.

The money was provided by CincyTech, with participation from Mercury Fund, Vine Street Ventures, Danmar Capital, Hyde Park Venture Partners and New Coast Ventures, as well as angel investors, such as Cintrifuse CEO Wendy Lea. Also as part of the deal, angel investors Charlie Key and Brandon Cannaday are joining Strap’s advisory board.

The proliferation of wearable devices have made it difficult for companies to have their software compatible with all the different platforms.Strap developed a platform that allows developers to make an app once and have it work across multiple wearable devices. Right now, the technology supports Pebble, Android Wear and Google Glass, with Samsung’s Tizen and Apple Watch support coming at a later date.

The proliferation of wearable devices have made it difficult for companies to have their software compatible with all the different platforms. Strap is looking to tackle that problem with a single set of APIs developers would use to make sure their apps and services sing along a number of different devices.

“The wearables market is poised for hockey-stick growth in the next 12 months, but challenges of fragmentation and increasing data points make it very difficult for existing app developers and stakeholders to jump in with both feet,” said Strap CEO Steve Caldwell.

The company has also developed a metrics platform called StrapMetrics which allows developers to optimize the sensory data that wearables capture.
