Paris-based startup Emiota is showing off its unique device made to help people get and stay in shape. Called Belty, this smart-belt buckle automatically loosens itself when users eat too much.
The buckle and corresponding belt either expand or contract depending on how much food user has consumed and how much exercise they’ve done to compensate. Rather than using the carrot, Belty relies on the stick to help users reach their goals.
Belty’s integrated sensors monitor movement to determine whether users need to engage in more activity. The device boasts a small accelerometer and gyroscope to monitor movement and determine whether users need to engage in more activity or not. A corresponding iPhone app charts the waistline data throughout the day and sends push notifications with feedback and suggestions on how to maintain a trim waistline.
While in Vegas, Emiota failed to share any details on availability and pricing; the company noted that Belty will be offered as a luxury product, hinting us it could have the price tag north of $200.
So far the belt is available in one color and style option only: steel gray with a bright blue trim.
