Dermatology mHealth app First Derm hits 100K downloads

First Derm app

The teledermatology app First Derm reached 100,000 downloads, the company has announced.

First Derm enables patients to receive an opinion on any skin ailment directly from board-certified dermatologists in only 24 hours. As such, the application has been extensively researched as a dermatology triage tool.

In order to use it, patients upload two photos, one up close and one overview, along with a description of the skin concern. Nearly 70 percent of First Derm’s submitted cases benefit from over-the-counter treatment if needed, resulting in an effective triage service that saves users time and money in unnecessary medical expenses and unnecessary doctor’s office visits.

“We’ve empowered the consumer to take a proactive step towards good health, starting with the body’s largest organ, the skin,” said Dr. Alexander Börve, the app’s creator. “First Derm isn’t a substitute for the doctor’s visit, it’s a tool that aids users in progressing along the right timeline for treatment.”

The app and parent company, iDoc24 are based in San Francisco. First Derm is available for free download for iOS and Android devices.
