Kenkodo is a novel mHealth product that aims to provide personalized metabolism analysis. Currently in development by the German Biotech company Metabolomic Discoveries, it consists of the Kenkodo @Home Blood Sample Kit and the Digital Diary app.
Said sampling kit is similar to the one diabetics use for insulin tests, allowing users to take a droplet of blood from the tip of their finger. The test takes 4, 8, or 12 weeks; and every 4 weeks, all samples should be sent to Metabolomic Discoveries’ lab where blood gets analyzed.
Kenkodo could be ordered through Indiegogo for €59 with 1-month subscription. The longer the participation, the higher the chance that Kenkodo finds metabolic patterns and connections like: what is the effect of a daily coffee? How many hours of sleep are optimal for me? Is running 8 miles really good for me? What happens if I start eating gluten-free? Kenkodo wants to answer these questions that can be especially useful for people with allergies, intolerances, or chronic diseases.
The Kenkodo technology has been applied for over ten years in scientific research, and it’s now — according to the project authors — for the first time available to everyone.
“We have gained a lot of knowledge and experience in metabolomics technology,” said Dr. Nicolas Schauer, CEO of Metabolomic Discoveries. “It gives insights into the metabolism of organisms and makes it possible to answer many questions related to our well-being and our health.”
To turn Kenkodo into a real-world product, Metabolomic Discoveries is running a crowdfunding campaign through Indiegogo to raise €50,000. There, the product/service could be bought for €59 with 1-month, or €149 with 3-month subscription. Other options were not available when we checked the page.
