In its recently released research, Parks Associates predicts that 60 million U.S. households will own at least one connected fitness tracker by the end of 2019.
In 2019, global revenues from connected fitness trackers will exceed $5 billion, with smartwatch sales exceeding 100 million units.
“Standards-based connectivity technologies such as Bluetooth/Bluetooth Smart have been key enablers for wearable mobile device platforms such as fitness trackers and smart watches,” said Tejas Mehta, Research Analyst at Parks Associates. “These new device platforms are leveraging Bluetooth connectivity to open up a range of applications and use cases ranging from fitness and health tracking to proximity marketing and home automation.”
Another nugget from the report – by 2018, over 80% of U.S. mobile subscriptions will be 4G LTE, enabling new and innovative services.
