Weight Watchers acquires Hot5

Hot5 app

Weight Watchers has acquired Hot5, the startup that provides users with access to a wide range of short fitness videos from mobile devices.

Originally launched in August 2013, Hot5’s two mobile apps had 400,000 downloads and tens of thousands of monthly active users. As part of Weight Watchers, the company can only keep growing, potentially reaching millions of new customers looking to get in shape.

The acquisition of Hot5 is only the latest move by Weight Watchers as it is looking to expand in the digital health space. Last spring, it bought Wello, a service that connects customers with personal trainers online; and then later – Weilos, which provides a platform for sharing images and weight loss success stories.
