Apple announces new health features for Apple Watch, HealthKit

Apple WatchOS 2.0

During its annual WWDC event, Apple unveiled a bunch of new features for all of its platforms. mHealth-wise, the Cupertino giant added few handy capabilities, including:

HealthKit

New metrics in HealthKit include UV exposure, how often you’re seated and reproductive health data. With the upcoming iOS 9 update, the iPhone’s Health app will finally be able to track a woman’s period. The application will likely track period frequency, and flow also seems to appear in the brief screenshot that flashed on screen.

Apple Watch

The Apple Watch has been updated with support for native apps, which includes those focused on fitness. Siri can be used to start and stop workouts, and there are also new achievements. In addition, with the new SDK, fitness app developers will be able to grab real-time heart rate.

Both the iOS 9 (with the updated Health app) and WatchOS will be available later this year.
