athenahealth launches athenaText, secure text messaging app

athenaText app

Cloud-based EHR provider athenahealth launched athenaText, a secure text messaging service for providers and care teams. Fully integrated with athenahealth’s platform, the service is accessible through the standalone athenaText app, Epocrates mobile apps and Apple Watch, enabling care teams to deliver well-coordinated patient care.

The HIPAA-compliant mobile app — which is available for iOS and Android devices — allows users to securely share texts, images and medication information across care teams.

athenaText is deemed “ideal for teams working in care environments” as it enables them to respond quickly to in-the-moment changes. For an added convenience, there’s the pre-populated directory of providers and support staff, powered by the athenahealth Provider Directory. Moreover, users get to benefit from the built-in clinical intelligence feature that links any drug mentioned within a message to the corresponding drug information in Epocrates.

And if that’s not enough, later this year, physicians will be able to exchange patient charts securely across care settings via athenaText, helping to decrease the possibility of oversight as patients move from provider to provider.

Speaking of providers, they can access athenaText within the Epocrates mobile app or download the standalone athenaText app from the Apple App Store or Google Play store.
