Curely

Telehealth service provider Curely raised $2 million in a round led by Exponential Partners with participation from GE Health CIO Randy Fox.

The Newport Beach, California-based company offers an app that allows patients to ask physicians health and wellness questions. Available for iOS and Android device, the application offers advice through text messages rather than video visits. Moreover, doctors are not able to diagnose conditions or prescribe medication for patients, but will rather answer other questions related to symptoms, follow-up care, or wellness.

Curely currently has nearly 600 board-certified physicians from 17 countries.Curely sees this as a benefit as it doesn’t have to comply with regulations and geographical limitations, and can also offer its service even in places where there 3G networks aren’t as prevalent as in the West.

It currently has nearly 600 board-certified physicians from 17 countries, with the idea to connect people with doctors in other countries, either because that’s where they are originally from or because of simple language barriers.

Users can chat with doctors or send them an “inbox message” which will be replied within 24 hours or they’ll get their money back. Physicians set their own pricing, which starts at $10 per 12-minute live chat session or $2 per inbox message. Patients also get to search for physicians by specialty, price, and language.
