Juniper: Apple sold between 2 and 2.5 million watches this quarter

Juniper Research estimates that Apple has moved between 2 and 2.5 million Apple Watch units in this past quarter. Although the company’s CEO Tim Cook hasn’t shared any figures, Juniper looked at the iPhone maker’s earnings to get to the estimate.

The Apple Watch revenue has been part of the Other Products category, which includes things like iPods, Beats headphones and accessories. Cook said this category has been propelled by the wearable’s launching, accounting for “well over 100% of the growth.”

By the end of the year, Juniper predicts Apple will move up to 7 million Watch units.Depending on the average selling price of Apple Watch the year-on-year revenue increase indicates between 1.5 and 2.5 million units.

Apple CFO Luca Maestri added fuel to the fire, remarking that the Watch has sold more than the first iPhone or the iPad in a comparable period – that is 87 days.

Given the facts above, Juniper assumes there have been more than 2 million Watch sales so far, generating revenues of around $1 billion while making for the most successful smart watch launch to date.

“However, despite buyers being satisfied with the device, we continue to see that the product is running out of steam,” said Juniper devices analyst James Moar. “We would also expect a decline in sales following launch, especially as H1 draws to a close.”

By the end of the year, the research firm predicts Apple will move up to 7 million Watch units, driven by the Christmas shopping craze.
