A mirror is one of those items all of us have in our bathrooms. And it’s only obvious that someone wants to make its smarter equivalent, one that’s bursting with sensors and a display to provide readings and useful information.
That “someone” is a consortium of EU researchers coordinated by Sara Colantonio, who placed 3D scanners and multispectral cameras along with a number of sensors behind the mirror to read user’s vitals.
Wize Mirror can also take samples of a user’s breath to tell how much they drink or smoke.A prototype device called Wize Mirror has been developed to detect things like heart rate and hemoglobin levels, as well as how stressed or calm you are (using facial recognition software). Moreover, thanks to the built-in gas sensors, this mirror is able to take samples of a user’s breath to tell how much they drink or smoke.
The mirror takes about a minute to analyze the user’s face, and then returns a score to indicate how healthy you look. Alongside that score, some tips on how to improve your health and change your lifestyle is also provided.
The researchers published an article in journal Biosystems Engineering about their smart mirror, and plan on initiating trials in Europe to identify the benefits of the device. Looking into the future, they hope that devices like Wize Mirror will eventually replace regular mirrors in our bathrooms and elsewhere.
