SeamlessMD raises $1.1M seed to expand its surgery recovery coach service

SeamlessMD

SeamlessMD has developed a mobile-connected app/service that makes it easier for patients to recover from surgery, allowing them to communicate vital information to physicians once they’re discharged. The company has just raised $1.1 million in a seed round to expand its surgery program library and continue to do clinical validation.

The money was provided by BDC Capital, FundersClub and angel investors, including Dr. Ray Muzyka (BioWare co-founder and ThresholdImpact CEO), Dr. Daniel Schwartz (QxMD co-founder), and Anthony Lacavera (chairman, Globalive Capital and Founder, WIND Mobile).

SeamlessMD also enables providers and administrators to receive real-time analytics to do remote monitoring and collect insights about their patients’ experience.SeamlessMD’s app — which can be accessed from a phone, tablet or computer — can be personalized to the type of procedure and the hospital’s care plan. It provides a mix of reminders, multimedia education content, progress tracking tools and feedback for self management. On the other hand, providers and administrators are able to receive real-time analytics to do remote monitoring, collect insights about their patients’ experience and assess the institution’s performance.

SeamlessMD’s current focus are high-risk, high-volume surgeries where the preparation and recovery can be long and complicated. These would include hip & knee replacement surgery, bariatric (or stomach) surgery, thoracic (or lung cancer) surgery, colon surgery, and cardiac surgery.

In June, we’ve reported that a Montreal hospital was using the company’s tablet app for enhanced recovery after surgery.
