DokiWatch keeps kids active and safe

DokiWatch is an IP67-rated, rugged Android 4.4 smartwatch with a 1.22-inch touchscreen, cellular radio (with 3G connectivity), 2-megapixel camera and an SOS button. Inside, it packs MediaTek’s 1.3GHz dual-code Cortex-A7 chip (MT6627), 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage, and a 600 mAh battery that should keep the watch working for a whole day (after which it needs to be recharged).

Parents can buy one of these for their child to stay in touch either through text, voice or video calls. And with the mentioned SOS button, a child could quickly summon help, though we hope most of its wearers won’t have to press that button.

The DokiWatch is available for $149 in a few color options, including yellow, red, blue and grey.On the software side of things, the watch uses the Doki app that connects children with their parents. The same app is available on iOS and Android smartphones and tablets, allowing parents to watch their child’s whereabouts, set virtual fences, and so on.

Another cool feature of the watch is its ability to connect with other DokiWatch users. If a kid comes across another DokiWatch user, they can add each other as friends on the watch (via Bluetooth) and the parents will receive a notification about this — with the ability to manage the friends list in their own Doki mobile app.

Finally, there’s the part of the software that keeps children active. That is accomplished with a pre-installed app that gamifies various fitness activities. A child is presented with a virtual pet that thrives on the amount of walking, with the option to earn stickers and badges as rewards. At any time, parents can see how much their child is walking and — if needed — nudge them to exercise more.

The DokiWatch is available on Kickstarter for $149 in a few color options, including yellow, red, blue and grey.
