Boston Scientific, Visible Health launch Ureteral Stent Tracker app

Ureteral Stent Tracker app

Boston Scientific has launched an app to help urologists and their staff keep tabs on ureteral stents implanted in patients with kidney stones. Called Ureteral Stent Tracker, the application was developed in partnership with health app developer Visible Health.

According to Boston Scientific, 13 out of 100 ureteral stents won’t be removed on time, and are left in patients for six months or more. This could lead to an infection as the majority of the stents that are not taken out become encrusted.

Ureteral Stent Tracker, which is available as an iPhone app or via web, allows urologists to document when they first implant a ureteral stent, and record the date that they want to be reminded to remove the stent.

If the urologist is using a Boston Scientific stent, they can scan the barcode on the package and the app will upload details about the device. The application also includes a dashboard doctors can use to monitor the status of all active stent cases or get patient-specific summaries. If needed, urologists can also share cases with other staff members in their organization and set default followers to specific cases.
