CirrusMD gets $1M for its text-first, video visits telehealth service

CirrusMD

Denver-based telemedicine startup CirrusMD has raised a little more than $1 million, according to an SEC filing. Investors include Boulder BioMed and Sand Hill Angels.

The company offers a telemedicine service to providers and payers that includes video visits that start with asynchronous text messaging. It currently serves over 250,000 people, allowing them to access local physicians anytime of day, from anywhere through their phone or computer.

CirrusMD’s services include a risk-sharing payment plan, and a technology platform that sends data from patient visits and interactions into the patient’s electronic health record. The company doesn’t hire physicians directly — that’s something its payer and provider customers are doing. These doctors are already working in local clinics and emergency rooms, and are paid an hourly wage rather than per-visit.

CirrusMD currently has 15 employees and six customers, Austin Regional Clinic being one of them. It will use the funds to expand development and sales teams.

Previously, the company raised $1.5 million in 2014.
