In December we saw Pebble adding fitness tracking capabilities to its smartwatch, and now they’re making an additional move in the form of a dedicated health tab that’s found inside the updated Pebble app.
The new update provides Pebble Time owners with a more holistic snapshot of their steps and sleep, letting them compare their current activity with past days, weeks, and months. The app will also send daily step and sleep summaries to the watch, as well as tips and performance comparisons for workouts.
The health benefits don’t stop there, though; Pebble’s smartwatch alarm app will now try and determine whether the user is sleeping deeply or close to waking up. If it’s the latter, the alarm will trigger 30 minutes early.
The update also includes other feature enhancements but since they are not health related, we suggest you check them out on Pebble’s blog.
We like to see Pebble getting serious about health and fitness, as that market is booming as we speak. Even though they literally kickstarted the modern smartwatch market, they are late to the connected fitness game. With updates like these, they may still have a chance to compete with the likes of Fitbit and grow their market share (and revenues) in the years to come. We’ll see how that goes…
