Pebble unveils two smartwatches with heart rate monitors and a clippable fitness device

New Pebble devices

Pebble won’t give up that easily despite the rise of Apple Watch and Android Wear. The company that started the modern smartwatch craze is back on Kickstarter asking support for three products, two of which are smartwatches with built-in heart rate monitors.

The new Pebble 2 and Pebble Time 2 are made to supersede the original Pebble smartwatch and the first Pebble Time, with a built-in heart rate monitor added to the mix. This, the company claims, would allow for even more comprehensive fitness tracking.

The Pebble 2 goes for $99 and will ship in September. It sports a high-contrast black and white e-paper display and a battery that will last for up to 7 days on a single charge. The Pebble Time 2, on the other hand, is priced at $169 and will ship in November. Compared to the original Pebble 2, it has a 53% larger color display, as well as a stainless steel construction. Also, it has a battery life of 10 days.

Both the Pebble 2 and Pebble Time 2 are water resistant up to 30m, have built-in microphones, and can be used for activity and sleep tracking. The companion app, available on iOS and Android devices, will show notifications, schedule, and offer customization options on how those side-mounted buttons on the two smartwatches are used.

In addition, the company also unveiled the Pebble Core, “a clippable fitness device that lets you leave your phone at home.” The $69 device integrates GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G connectivity, 3.5mm jack, and can also stream music.

The Core can track your pace, distance, and location, and even supports recording voice notes. In addition, it can send an emergency SOS message if needed. Its battery should be good for five and a half hours of use, and it’s set to ship in January 2017.
